I jumped at the opportunity to work with the AEF because I believe in its mission and want to contribute to a much-needed shift in this industry. AEF fosters connections between academia and advertising, allowing the next generation of marketers to have access to marketing professionals like never before. I have been committed to ushering in more diversity in this industry since I started my career, and I appreciate that through AEF, I am connected to a network of individuals who share that same commitment.
I’m passionate about the future of advertising because the dynamic evolution of technology and creative expression offers groundbreaking ways to engage consumers and shape societal norms. I’m also excited about the industry’s emphasis on data-driven insights and ethical practices, as it enables us to create more meaningful campaigns and widens the aperture for professional development and positive change.
We are all works in progress, and you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable because that’s the only way you’ll grow.
Inspiring the next generation of diverse talent in advertising is crucial because diversity brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that drive creativity and authenticity in our campaigns. By fostering an inclusive environment, we ensure that our industry reflects the rich tapestry of our society, enabling us to connect more deeply with a broader audience. Moreover, empowering diverse voices not only enhances the cultural relevance of our work but also promotes equity and representation, which are essential for the growth and ethical integrity of the advertising field.
I enjoy being a CMO because it allows me to shape my agency’s brand and market presence while continuously engaging the latest industry trends and innovations. This role also allows me to leverage my creativity, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to drive impactful marketing initiatives, and I get the satisfaction of knowing that I am directly influencing the company’s growth and success.
It’s less a skill and more a mindset. Always be curious and never stop learning. This mindset not only keeps you adaptable in a constantly changing industry but also fuels your passion and drive. Embracing continuous learning opens up new opportunities, helps you develop a diverse skill set, and keeps you ahead in your career.
1. Believe in yourself and know that it takes daily practice. Wake up each morning with the conviction that you have the strength, skills, and intelligence to face whatever comes your way. It’s about acknowledging your worth and trusting your capacity to learn and grow. Self-belief is the force that turns setbacks into comebacks and challenges into opportunities.
2. Learn something new every day. Make it your goal to be able to talk about five different things with five different individuals or groups at any networking event. Being able to engage in conversation, have divergent thoughts, and remain open to new perspectives will take you incredibly far in just about every aspect of your life.
3. Never be afraid to speak up. Share your ideas even if you don’t think they are good. Share your opinion, even if you feel it’s controversial. A little provocation will take you a long way and will capture the attention of peers, press, senior leaders, clients, you name it.
4. Build a strong network and get some new friends. Surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Your network determines your net worth.
5. Don’t be afraid to take risks, push boundaries, and question conventional wisdom. Innovation and progress emerge from the willingness to step outside your comfort zone.
6. Stay true to yourself and be prepared to share your personal experiences. People connect with real stories and authentic voices, and that will, in turn, make what you are saying more compelling.
7. Remember that you are enough. Though we all do this, try not to compare yourself to others. Instead, relish in your achievements, no matter how small they seem. Comparison is the thief of joy.
